Horrible news coming from Greenville, North Carolina today as BMX Icon Dave Mirra has passed away from an apparent suicide.

Via TMZ,

BMX bike legend Dave Mirra — who once had the record for the most X Games medals — has died of an apparent suicide … TMZ Sports has learned.

Cops say the 41-year-old’s body was found in his truck in Greenville, North Carolina Thursday with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

We’re told he had been in the area visiting with friends.

Mirra leaves a wife and two kids.

Mirra will leave behind a legacy rivaled by very few in the BMX world, medaling in ALL 13 X Games he participated in from 1995-2008–24 medals total. He won the ESPY Award for Best Male Action Sports Athlete of 2005 after winning a record eighteenth X Games medal. He was also widely recognizable as the host of MTV’s Real Road/Road Rules Challenge for two seasons. Seemed like a bro who would be fun to party with.

From the brief research I’ve done, it doesn’t look like there is any public record of Mirra having any sort of troubling issues such as depression or substance abuse.

Thoughts with his wife Lauren and their two children.

This is one of Mirra’s throwback secret BMX sessions from years back. Filthy.
