It’s been a big week for Donald Trump receiving the support of the biggest members of the right wing’s pseudo-celebrity political complex desperate for a moment in the limelight.
First came the inane ramblings of Sarah Palin, who is, sure, behind Donald Trump, but only wants to be back in the public’s eye (She would endorse a dolphin for president if it was drawing the kind of crowds on the campaign Trump is).
Now comes the ringing words of perhaps the most insane man in America, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, lawman of Maricopa County, Arizona, whose Wikipedia entry begins with, I shit you not, accusations of “abuse of power, misuse of funds, failure to investigate sex crimes, improper clearance of cases, unlawful enforcement of immigration laws, and election law violations, amongst others.”
As sheriff.
Ain’t nothing, though, for a REAL man of the law. Not them prissy shit regulations they cook up in WARSHINGTON. Talking Wild West Justice.
Sheriff Joe Arapio was once sued by the ACLU for abusing “pre-trial detainees at Maricopa County Jail by feeding them moldy bread, rotten fruit and other contaminated food, housing them in cells so hot as to endanger their health, denying them care for serious medical and mental health needs and keeping them packed as tightly as sardines in holding cells for days at a time during intake.”
So you should listen to who he tells you to vote for. Then not do that.
He also hates immigrants. Hates ’em. His jurisdiction has been accused of racial profiling, making illegal traffic stops, and improperly targeting businesses of Latinos.
He also believes Barack Obama forged his birth certificate.
So, all in all, it makes perfect sense for him to endorse Trump. From The New York Times:
Joe Arpaio, the hard-line anti-immigration sheriff from Maricopa County, Ariz., will appear with Donald J. Trump in Iowa on Tuesday and endorse his candidacy, according to Mr. Trump’s campaign.
“I have great respect for Sheriff Arpaio,” Mr. Trump said in a statement. “We must restore law and order and respect the men and women of our police forces. I thank him for his support of my policies and candidacy for president.”
That could read, in a more accurate light, I have great respect for a police officer who is willing to break the rule of law in order to impose his arbitrary view of society on a citizenry.
Just what you want in a president!
(In case you are about to claim that Arapio has been repeatedly elected as Sheriff of Maricopa County, and is thus doing the will of the people, he’s also been accused of election law violations and staging a fake assassination attempt against his life to boost his popularity during an election.)
Here’s what Arapio had to say about Trump.
In a statement released by the campaign, Mr. Arapaio said: “Donald Trump is a leader. He produces results and is ready to get tough in order to protect American jobs and families. I have fought on the front lines to prevent illegal immigration. and I know Donald Trump will stand with me and countless Americans to secure our border. I am proud to support him as the best candidate for president of the United States of America.”
Yea. Makes perfect sense tbh. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if he winds up as Trump’s running mate.
