Dave Chappelle will be hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend and has been preparing by performing in surprise shows at The Cutting Room in New York City. On Friday night, Chappelle gave his opinions on the presidential election in a 60-minute set and was documented by The Observer.
The comedian commented on the now infamous hot mic conversation between Donald Trump and Billy Bush on a previously unaired taping of Access Hollywood in 2005 that was leaked.
“What I heard on that tape was gross,” Chappelle said. “But the way I got to hear it was even more gross. You know that came directly from Hillary.”
Then Chappelle knocked down the notion that Trump’s “grab’em by the pussy” remark was sexual assault.
“Sexual assault? It wasn’t. He said, ‘And when you’re a star, they let you do it.’ That phrase implies consent. I just don’t like the way the media twisted that whole thing. Nobody questioned it.”
Chappelle marveled at Trump’s resiliency and ability to escape from any trouble and comparing the Republican presidential candidate to The Terminator. “That would have devastated anybody else,” Chappelle said.
Chappelle then talked about the second presidential debate where the moderators were Anderson Cooper and Martha Raddatz.
“Something about this was backward. A gay white man and a white woman asking a multi-billionaire how he knows the system is rigged and insisting it’s not. Does that sound right to you? It didn’t seem right to me. And here’s how you know Trump is the most gangsta candidate ever. They asked him how he knows the system is rigged and he said, ‘Because I take advantage of it.’ He may as well have flashed his membership card for the Illuminati right then.”
During his rant he had this to say about Hillary Clinton, “She’s not right and we all know she’s not right.” Chappelle noted the historical importance if Clinton was voted as the first female President of the United States. “She’s going to be on a coin someday. And her behavior has not been coin-worthy,” he said.
Despite not exactly having a ringing endorsement of the Democratic presidential candidate, he did reveal that he did vote for Hillary. Chappelle said he voted early in rural Yellow Springs, Ohio before heading to New York, but he “didn’t feel good” about voting for Clinton.
Chappelle compared voting for Hillary to having sex with Halle Berry, but then she farts in your face. “I’m still going to go for it,” he said. “But I wish she hadn’t done that thing.”
Chappelle just became my favorite political pundit of all-time.
He told the story of how he attended a BET party at the White House where he waxed lyrical about Frederick Douglass, and concluding that even though the current election has been “gross,” he still loves the United States of America.
