On Saturday, Tennessee defensive lineman Danny O’Brien suffered a scary hit while attempting to make a tackle and was carted off the field on a stretcher.
Today, the Tennessee Volunteers announced that O’Brien has been kicked off the team for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

Tennessee redshirt senior defensive lineman Danny O’Brien has been dismissed from the team for an undisclosed violation of team rules, according to a release from the Tennessee athletics department on Monday night. The release by the university said the dismissal was unrelated to O’Brien’s injury “however, should he require any additional care it will be provided by the University of Tennessee.”
O’Brien took to Twitter to apologize to fans.
Although this would be O’Brien’s third team violation in the last two years, he was suspended in 2015 for two games for violating team rules and also was arrested in 2014 for underage drinking and resisting arrest, it’s still pretty crazy how quickly O’Brien was sent packing by the Vols considering he put his body on the line and nearly got paralyzed for the sake of the team just two days ago.
