U.S. gymnast McKayla Maroney was one of the biggest sensations at the 2012 London games. She quit the team and gymnastics entirely, however, and isn’t in Rio competing for more Olympic gold. So what does Miss Not-Impressed Face do besides have a casual identity crisis?
Music. According to an interview in US Weekly, Maroney is about to drop banger-after-banger when she soft launches her music career in September.
Throwing herself into music has helped Maroney make peace with the new direction her life has taken. Recently, she’s been working on a new single called “Ghost” that will be out September 8. “I like to say my genre is vulnerable pop because it’s all melody and lyrically driven and heart driven,” she said, adding that her “favorite thing to sing about is love” and Taylor Swift is one of her big inspirations.
Lol. This is going to be good.
And 19-year-old dudes, heads up that’s Maroney is single AF right now. So get on that since she “has time for boys” now.
Although Maroney told Us she’s “very much single” at the moment, the new chapter of her life involves dating — something she was never able to do as a gymnast. “We weren’t allowed to have a boyfriend,” she said. “You’re so dedicated and committed. I mean, I was in the gym for like eight hours a day and then outside of that I’d be doing school or writing songs in my free time, so there really wasn’t time for boys at all.”
Scale of 1-10, how will Maroney’s career go? I’m terrified to hear that first song. I’m expecting something that’s a mix between Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande. Let’s hope Katy Perry comes out of her trance with Orlando Bloom and drops an earworm we can all get behind.
