New Orleans guard Bryce Dejean-Jones has died at the age of 23 after he was shot in the abdomen late Friday night in Dallas County, Texas.
Dejean-Jones played college basketball at USC (2010-11), UNLV (2012-14) and Iowa State (2014-15) before going undrafted in 2015.
He later went on to play for the the Idaho Stampede of the NBA development league before being signed to a 10-day contract by the New Orleans Pelicans.
In the NBA Dejean-Jones averaged 5.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game and impressed the team so much that they rewarded him with a three-year contract extension in February.

According to ESPN Dejean-Jones was arguing with the mother before he was shot.

Sources told ESPN that Dejean-Jones was in town to celebrate his daughter’s birthday and was involved in an argument with the child’s mother prior to the shooting.

Update: #2 According the apartment manager where Bryce Dejean-Jones was shot, Dejean-Jones was attempting to enter an estranged girlfriend’s apartment but instead broke into the wrong apartment.
