If you’re in the Northeast and smelling that sticky icky icky floating through the air don’t worry, there’s not a skunk hiding underneath your house or out in the garbage. That beautiful cannabis smell wafting through the air is just the result of hundreds of thousands of Phish fans celebrating the news that Vermont just legalized marijuana for recreational purposes.
The Vermont Senate Finance Committee approved a bill to legalize recreational marijuana after a vote of 6 to 1. The bill stipulates that persons over the age of 21 will be able to possess up to one ounce of marijuana under controlled environments, and it’s paving the way for dispensaries and retail stories through the great state of Vermont.
As a diehard Phish fan myself, I’m already checking my email inbox for the announcement that the 4 boys from Vermont (Trey, Page, Jon, and Mike) will be playing a MASSIVE PHESTIVAL somewhere in Vermont to celebrate this monumental occasion. Because for Phish fans weed isn’t life, music is life, but yah weed is also sort life. So this is about as big of an announcement for Vermont as there’s ever been.

The Vermont Senate Finance Committee approved legislation to legalize marijuana in Vermont.
The vote was 6 to 1.
According to the bill, it would make it legal for adults 21 years of age and older to possess
up to one ounce of marijuana and establish a tightly controlled system of licensed marijuana cultivation sites, testing facilities, and retail stores.
It would remain illegal to consume marijuana in public or drive under the influence of marijuana.
“I want to thank the Senate Finance Committee for their work and Senator Tim Ashe for his leadership. Today’s vote builds upon the good work started by Senator Sears and the Senate Judiciary Committee,” Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin said.

In other news, anyone in the Northeast have a car and down to take a road trip to Burlington as soon as this legislation is pushed through and legalized weed is readily available throughout Vermont? Because I’d be down as fuck to spend a night at Nectar’s in Burlington, checking out the house band and getting completely lit. I rarely, RARELY smoke weed these days because I now live in a state where it’s illegal, but when you’re in a place where it’s 100% legal for recreational use the taboo is removed and it’s fucking incredible…So who’s down?
