What ‘BoJack Horseman’ Says About Our Own Dark, Narcissistic Reality

Two of my favorite Netflix shows in the past few years are Masters Of None and BoJack Horseman. Yes, Stranger Things and Narcos and Daredevil and House of Cards are all great “hit” shows, but there’s something melancholy and special about the somber reflectiveness of BoJack and Masters. Both look you in the eye like a mirror with their worlds and characters.

In the case of BoJack, the show is far from just another cartoon. It’s a reflection on life, aspirations, and loneliness. It’s “something light and fun to distract me from the deep well of sadness that is my life,” heavy on existential despair. In that regard, it’s perfect.

The Youtube channel Wisecrack came up with a brilliant video essay about the philosophical meaning of BoJack. It’s a must-watch for all fans of the show.
