On Thursday, David Bowie released a solemn and beautiful final album called “Blackstar.” At the time of it’s release, no one knew the legendary artist was nearing the end of a battle with cancer. Along with the album itself came the release of a haunting music video for a song on the album called “Lazarus.” In the Bible, Lazarus was brought back from the dead after four days by Jesus. With the news of Bowie’s passing this morning after an 18-month fight with cancer, the song might as well be his goodbye the world.
He wrote his own eulogy with music. Provocative, magnificent music.
Look up here, I’m in heaven
I’ve got scars that can’t be seen
I’ve got drama, can’t be stolen
Everybody knows me now
Art in death. What an incredible way to go out.
Rest in space, Bowie.
