Josh Norman signed a 5-year, $75 million with the Washington Redskins this offseason after the Panthers rescinded the franchise tag on him. His current contract, which will pay him $50 million guaranteed, makes him the highest paid cornerback on the planet.
One would assume that one of the premier cornerbacks in the game (albeit he had his fair share of struggles going up against DeSean Jackson in practice) would guard the best wide receiver in the game in Antonio Brown.
Well, he didn’t. And the Redskins opted to match up their second best corner, Bashaud Breeland (4 year/$2.7 million), on Brown. This turned out to be a bad decision, as Brown torched Breeland for seven catches for 113 yards and two TDs in Pittsburgh’s easy 38-16 win on Monday night. Head-scrathcing.
When asked about the decision, Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz basically called Norman a baby back bitch.
Per the NY Post:
“Especially if he calls himself – I don’t call him this, he calls himself – the best corner in the league, then you have to cover the best receivers on the other team,’’ Victor Cruz said Wednesday after practice. “Going in I thought he was going to follow AB all over the place but he didn’t so it is what it is. He made his choice.’’
“It’s always his choice,’’ Cruz said. “He can go to the powers that be and say ‘Hey, I want to cover this guy.’ And if they say no, if maybe he did that and they said no, then I’ll have to eat my words. But for the most part you can go and make that request I’m sure.’’
Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins gave his two sense as well:
“I think when you’re paying somebody $70 mil, there shouldn’t be no game plan,” Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins said. “The game plan should be: You’re on this guy. That’s what it is.”
The Giants play the Redskins in Week 3. This shit talking coupled with the lingering Odell/Norman feud from last year and I have the over on 2 people getting murdered on the field.
