Remember last month when a skilled SAS marksman took out five ISIS suicide bombers and only needed three bullets to accomplish the implausible feat? Now there is a new incredible story of a sniper making another unimaginable shot.
An expert sniper for the Special Air Service (SAS), the special forces unit of the British Army, was embedded with Iraqi soldiers in the city of Ramadi, which was recently liberated from the hands of the Islamic State.
ISIL militants were using the second floor of a two-story concrete house that was well fortified as a command post to launch suicide attacks against the Iraqi army. Apparently, there were dozens of civilians in the area being used as human shields to protect the facility, making an airstrike or rocket attack out of the question. The SAS thought out of the box and decided to shoot through the walls to annihilate the terrorists.
Last week, the SAS sniper positioned himself in another building nearly a mile away from the target. The world-class shooter fired 30 armor-piercing rounds from his powerful Barrett Light .50 caliber rifle into the command post causing the wall to partially collapse.
Later that day the SAS and Iraqi forces seized the building and found three dead jihadists.
A source told The Daily Star, “The bodies of the Islamic State fighters had been absolutely pulverized. One had been decapitated and another had been cut in half. It was a real scene of carnage – but the tactic had proved incredibly effective.”
The source believes that the sniper’s sharpshooting saved the lives of 20 civilians in the Iraqi city.
