Man, Paul Manafort has had a rough fucking week. It began with allegations that he accepted millions from pro-Russian groups while working for Ukranian politicians, then snowballed as his boss, Donald Trump, replaced him as campaign manager with Breitbart News executive Steve Bannon.
Manafort was promoted (?) to campaign chairman, but that lasted all of two-and-a-half days. Today, he tendered his resignation.
It comes on the heels of a report by Fusion that Manafort may have helped aid protestors who attacked U.S. Marines while he was working abroad.
A decade later, the aborted exercise is arousing new interest: American diplomatic cables and Ukrainian prosecutors say the anti-US, anti-NATO protests that threatened these Marines were largely partisan plants, organized by politicians who consulted with Paul Manafort, now the prominent campaign aide to presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Not the best look, you know?
Prior to being replaced by Bannon, Manafort served as Trump’s campaign manager. He came aboard to replace Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s original campaign manager, after Trump’s children forced him out.
