Back in early February, around Super Bowl time, we told you about Wilson’s X-Connected Football, which can measure and monitor your throwing prowess via a smartphone app. Now, we have a release date, price point, and a pre-order incentive.
The ball ships September 8th, costs $200 and the first 100 pre-orders will receive a copy of Madden ’17 for PS4 or X-Box One. On its site, Wilson claims the ball is “good for approximately 500 hours of active use or roughly 200,000 throws”, which is the equivalent of one game between Eli Manning and Drew Brees.
The app works on both iOS and Android devices, but not Blackberry, so Kim K’s SOL. You’ll need a Bluetooth connection to track throws.
The company has been on tour to demo the ball. They were just in Canton, Ohio for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, which was cancelled because of… paint. Upcoming stops are August 13th in Flowood, Mississippi, and August 20th in Auburn, Alabama and Santa Clarita, California.
One commenter on the Engadget story asked, “Does it measure air pressure?” Slow clap, sir. Even Tom Brady’s not gonna appeal that one.
