The golden rule for jokes is if they’re going to be offensive, they have to be funny. Humor gives motive to the offensiveness and eliminates the cynicism, that’s why some of the super offensive jokes are often the funniest.
But there are two sides to a coin, and if there’s no humor to be had in a derogatory joke, you just come off as a douchy assclown and deserve to be publicly shamed.
Insert radio host and avid Trump supporter John Phillips. Phillips recently appeared on CNN to liken Trump’s nightmarish campaign as of late to the drug-ridden days leading up to the eventual overdose of comedy legend Chris Farley.
“Over the last few days, I’m not surprised to see people running for the hills,” talk show host John Phillips, an outspoken Trump backer, said on CNN.
“The last 72 hours for Donald Trump have been the political equivalent of Chris Farley’s final 72 hours on planet Earth.”
Crickets.
The Hollywood Reporter reached out to Kevin Farley, the younger brother of Chris, for a comment and he replied in three words: “tasteless and rude.”
Judging by his Twitter bio, we should have seen this coming.
Let’s remember Farley for his positive qualities.
