Jameis Winston Lets 7-Year-Old Cancer Survivor Shave His Head To Raise Awareness

Jameis Winston got the best haircut for the best cause on Wednesday. Winston sat in the barber’s chair as 7-year-old Josh, a cancer survivor, took a lot off the top. Josh shaved Winston’s head at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ fourth annual “Cut for a Cure” event.

The Pro Bowl quarterback was among more than two dozen players and staff from the Buccaneers to get haircuts for a great cause. The event helped raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer, and proceeds go to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

This tremendous gesture by Winston comes only days after Alex Kennedy wrote a piece on Jameis for The Undefeated titled “The Continued Maturation of Jameis Winston.” The post details how Jameis gives back to the community and does a good deal of charity much like you see above.

“His work in the community is like no other,” Buccaneers defensive tackle Akeem Spence said. “He’s always giving back, volunteering, supporting good causes and showing up at teammates’ camps. He is always willing to give a helping hand, no matter who asks.”

“It blew me away,” teammate Louis Murphy added. “People were surprised, and I didn’t even expect him to be so involved. But he cares so much. He cares about the kids and this community.”

However, the article about the Tampa Bay quarterback’s past was heavily scrutinized by many for being too one-sided in favor of Winston and glossing over his rape allegation from his days at Florida State. Deadspin went as far as to call the article a “soft-focus profile of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston that is so remarkably bad that I honestly don’t understand how or why it ever saw daylight.”

If you’d like to volunteer or donate to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation you can do so here.
