Unfortunately for RHCP fans, the band was forced to cancel a concert set for Saturday night at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater in Irvine, California.
Even more unfortunate, is that the reasoning was because lead singer Anthony Kiedis was unable to perform, as a result of being transported to a nearby hospital amid medical concerns.
The announcement was not made until just before the show was slated to start, when the band took to the stage and informed fans of the situation at hand. It was Flea who had the mic to break the terrible news to the fans.
“Anthony is on his way to the hospital right now and we’re unable to play this evening. We are devastated about it. We’re really sad. We love you so much. We live to rock…But unfortunately there’s a medical thing that happened and he needed to deal with it.”
A source told ABC News that Kiedis was hospital bound after complaints of stomach pain. Given the lead singer’s penchant for rocking as hard as they come, you’ve got to believe something was really awry for the show to be cancelled.
Drummer Chad Smith took to Twitter shortly after the band left the stage to add his disappointment about the situation.
Hopefully Anthony Kiedis is feeling well soon, so that the Peppers can give those Irvine fans the fucking rock show they deserve. Because the Red Hot Chili Peppers bring it every time.
