While Call of Duty blasts off into space and the future with Infinite Warfare, Battlefield says take your spaceships and powered exoskeletons and shove them up your ass because they are taking you back to World War I.

On Friday, Electronic Arts and developer Dice unveiled the trailer for Battlefield 1 and it looks tremendous! Get ready to go back to 1914 and prepare to do battle with Mark V tanks, horses, bayonets, flamethrowers, biplanes, triplanes, mustard gas, zeppelins and even hand-to-hand combat in the muddy trenches. The game will be a realistic version of World War I, despite rumors that the game would be alternate history.

“We chose the name because we’re going back to the true dawn of all out warfare,” lead game designer Daniel Berlin said at a private event near San Francisco for press and fans, “and this is the genesis of what modern warfare is today.”
Battlefield 1 will offer an eye-popping 64-person multiplayer as well as a single-player campaign.

The character on the game’s cover appears to be a Harlem Hellfighter from the 369th Infantry Regiment, formerly known as the 15th New York National Guard Regiment. Wikipedia describes them as an “infantry regiment of the United States Army National Guard that saw action in World War I and World War II. The Regiment consisted of African-Americans and Puerto Ricans and was known for being the first African-American regiment to serve with the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I.”

Battlefield 1 releases worldwide on October 21 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, but there will be an “Early Enlister Deluxe Edition” for sale $80 on Amazon, that will be out three days early, on October 18.
