There’s a certain snarkiness towards John Mayer that I’ll never understand. He’s about as big of a Bro as it gets — the dude has a watch collection worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, has dated Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, and knows how the shred the shit out of a guitar. It was pop rock, but Room For Squares was one of the defining albums of my high school years. I’ll never get the hate.
Mayer has reinvented himself over the last year as the lead guitar “Jerry” role in Dead and Company, The Grateful Dead’s touring incarnation without bassist Phil Lesh. After a monster fall tour in late 2015, Dead and Company will be tearing up large capacity stadiums around the country this summer, including Citifield here in New York.
Anyway, Dead and Company just shared a video of John practicing his licks on “Ramble On Rose.” It’s a reminder that Mayer is just that damn good at the guitar.
