Taking over the role of an iconic character such as Han Solo is like trying to follow Peyton Manning in the NFL. You are thrilled that you get to take over such a prestigious position, but the comparisons are going to be brutal. You’re pretty much already damned by some people just for showing up.
But after half of Hollywood tried out for the part of a young Han Solo, daring to try to fill the shoes of the legend Harrison Ford, one man has survived and come out on top.
His name is Alden Ehrenreich and if you find yourself saying, “Who?” you probably aren’t alone.
Ehrenreich’s most notable credits of late include Hail, Caesar!, Beautiful Creatures, Blue Jasmine and Stoker so if you haven’t seen any of those you would certainly have no idea who he is.
That being said, Daisy Ridley was a complete unknown and she fared pretty damn well in Star Wars: Episode VII, right?
Ehrenreich will be playing Han Solo at a younger age in a standalone film based on the character’s life prior to the events of Star Wars: Episode IV.
Reports Variety…
No plot details have been revealed, other than that the film will be set prior to “Star Wars: A New Hope,” like the other standalone pic “Rogue One.” Production is not expected to begin until January. Sources told Variety earlier this year that the reason for the January start may be so that the character may cameo in “Rogue One,” giving the production time to shoot the scene that introduces the new Han Solo.
The film is expected to be released on May 25, 2018 so we have plenty of time to speculate on how good a choice Alden Ehrenreich is, won’t we?
In the mean time, while we wait, here’s what we know so far about another standalone Star Wars film Rogue One…
