We Tried An Insane Hot Sauce That Is Four Times Hotter Than Cholula And Bottled In Jet Engine Materials

There are few things I love more than the savory burn of a great hot sauce. On Sunday I hit up the New York City Hot Sauce Expo in Brooklyn to sample over a hundred sauces. Because I’m a man of impulse when it comes to spicy flavors, I came back with 24 hot sauces from all around the world for my kitchen cabinet.

One of the marquee sauces of the expo is a special-edition concoction called 10^32, which General Electric made in collaboration with the food minds over at Thrillist. Chris told you about it a couple months back. It’s called that because 1032 Kelvin is “the temperature at which physicists believe all things start to break down and everyday matter no longer exists.” In order to illustrate the spectacular physical of thermal energy, GE whipped together a sauce made with Carolina Reaper and Trinidad Moruga Scorpion and packaged it in handsome GE-manufactured materials “engineered to withstand temps up to 2400 degrees Fahrenheit.” It’s a fancy piece of jet engine made out of nickel super alloy.

The sauce itself measures over 2.2 million Scoville heat units. All things considered, it’s “about three times hotter than Franks and about four times hotter than Cholula” in terms of heat.

GE brought a bottle of 10^32 to our office this afternoon for a taste test, along with our new bro Todd, a Thermal Systems Technology Leader at the company. Here’s what the package looks like:

Check out our taste test in the Facebook Live video above. The sauce straight smoked us, especially Matt Keohan who visually struggled for a couple minutes after downing a teaspoon. The chaser? A much-needed spoonful of hot sauce ice cream.

Batches of 10^32 are already sold out, so if you want to grab the sauce you’ll need to (a. fight me for my bottle or (b. hit up eBay for a reseller.
