Except for one 54-win season in 2012-13, the Carmelo Anthony as a New York Knick experiement hasn’t exactly gone the way he or the team had hoped, as they continue to lose in pathetic fashion and waste any semblance of his remaining prime years.
With so much dysfunction in the Big Apple and Melo constantly being at the center of trade discussion as the team toys with a full rebuild or trying to build around their All-Star forward, Anthony finally admitted what we all wanted him to—that he’s given thought about just wanting out.
Talking to The Wall Street Journal‘s Chris Herring, here’s what Carmelo had to say about his, sort of, future with the Knicks:
The 31-year-old Anthony has expressed interest in taking part in the team’s new head coaching search, so that part isn’t too much of a shock. What should totally piss off Knicks faithful, though, is that he’s already thinking about bolting less than 24 hours since the regular season ended. That couldn’t have just popped into his head overnight after another lost season.
There are tons of options out there for the team to unload Melo and scoop younger pieces and/or draft picks, so the question is if the front-office has the balls to do it? Based off of these comments, though, Carmelo might just demand a trade in the coming months, because he doesn’t sound to thrilled with the direction of the franchise.
