Most corporations go out of their way to keep the sheep on the straight and narrow. Mandatory dress codes for non client-facing roles, HR violations for telling Karen from Accounting you like the pattern on her dress, and manager sign-offs for everything short of taking a shit, just to name a few. It’s suffocating and limiting.
I’d venture to guess that every brewery on the planet would have fired packing manager Graeme Wallace after his stunt required the recalling of 200,000 beers that had been distributed all across the UK.
According to Mirror, Graeme was perturbed by accusations that the brewery he works at, BrewDog, was not being ‘punk’ enough. He then took matters into his own hands by changing the wording on 200,000 cans of Punk IPA to read ‘MOTHER FUCKER DAY’ under the expiration date before they were shipped all across the UK.
It didn’t take long before customers began tweeting at BrewDog with their findings. The below picture was shared to IMGUR accompanied with the caption: “Have to take all these beers off sale because someone had a bad day.”
BrewDog, rather than punishing Graeme for intentionally causing thousands of dollars of losses, was actually awarded Employee of the Month.
A spokesperson for BrewDog said:
“At another company, someone responsible for a prank like this might have been given the heave ho. At BrewDog, Graeme was awarded Employee of the Month.”
Goes to show that there is a fine line between a promotion and a pink slip. Good on you, BrewDog. Good on you.
Advice for Graeme: don’t test your luck.
