So. Much. NOPE. Just one slide and you’re falling hundreds of feet in each direction. This is actually a section of Capitol Peak in Colorado called the “Knife Edge.” It’s actually one of the hardest “fourteeners” in Colorado to climb because you have to cross this section to completely summit the mountain. There are some horror stories out there too from people trying to climb it, like this mountaineer who opted another route down the mountain instead of having to cross the Knife Edge again. On June 19, Ryan Joseph Palmer, 35, and two companions were returning from the summit of Capitol. According to various reports, Palmer didn’t want to climb back across the Knife Edge and elected to forge down the north face. The low-angled terrain on the north face quickly steepened and at some point Palmer fell an estimated 300 feet. He died of blunt head trauma.
Terrifying. I’ll stick to the low-hanging 3000-foot mountains.
