If you’ve sworn off watching Saturday Night Live for a while, you might want to swear back on because Kate McKinnon is arguably one of the funniest cast members in the late night show’s history. In case your friends are doing you a disservice and not spreading the gospel about Kate’s great talents, the video above should lay it all out for you. Get on board the McKinnon cruise line, dude.
McKinnon can play a wide range of emotions, even making the tragically sad magically comical. Hand her a character and she’ll turn it into comedy gold. Her list of celebrity impressions – like when she perfectly captured Iggy Azalea – grows by the week and as soon as non-SNL fans catch wind of this whirling dervish of devilish dynamite in the new Ghostbusters movie, she’s going to have Oprah do her laundry, Michael Jordan cut her grass, and a team of lawyers to watch her first two lawyers.
When she’s not consistently snapping funny bones on SNL, she’s voicing cartoon characters on Family Guy, Moonbeam City, The Simpsons, and Venture Brothers. Kate’s vocal cords will also be earning dollar bills in the Finding Nemo sequel Finding Dory and Angry Birds.
It’s stupefying how McKinnon hasn’t landed like fifteen leading roles in major comedy motion pictures yet. She had a role as a lesbian in Sisters – that flick with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler – that was way, way too small. Kate will be in Masterminds, which co-stars Kristen Wiig, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Sudeikis, and Owen Wilson that’s supposed to hit theaters in late September, plus she’s currently filming Office Christmas Party, which stars Olivia Munn, Jennifer Aniston, and T.J. Miller is scheduled for release in December.
