After winning their first World Series title in 30 years last season, the Kansas City Royals finally got the one thing that every athlete longs for—a championship ring—receiving the piece of jewelry prior to their game today against the New York Mets, whom the Royals beat in last year’s Fall Classic.
Featuring incredible detail and plenty of bling, the rings feature two types of gold and nearly 10 karats of gemstones, with a custom-cut blue sapphire used to create the KC logo, which is outlined in yellow gold on top.
The team then wrapped the word “World Champions” in yellow gold, with a bunch of diamonds that are set on a field of 14-karat white gold.
Looks like the team’s third baseman, Mike Moustakas, approves of the design, telling The Kansas City Star:
“Anybody that plays Major League Baseball or baseball in general dreams of playing in the World Series,” Moustakas said. “There are guys that played this game for 10, 12 years and never made it to the postseason. To win a World Series at a young age with this group of guys is pretty special.”
I’m not sure how much the team spent on the over 700 rings presented to various members of the organization, but with that much ice on them, it had to be a bunch, so you better cherish them, fellas.
