Richard Sherman RIPS Roger Goodell When Discussing Potential Rule Changes, Says He’s ‘Just A Suit’

Richard Sherman is not afraid of confrontation.

This was all too evident when Sherman sat down with ESPN’s Jim Trotter on SportsCenter this morning to discuss his opinion on the 19 rule change proposals that will be presented to the NFL’s competition committee this week–namely the automatic ejection rule for players who commit two personal foul penalties, which Goodell openly favors.

The former NFL Defensive Player of the Year called the rule “foolish” before candidly questioning the qualifications of those who in charge of potentially enacting these rule proposals. That criticism was very pointedly aimed at NFL Commish Roger Goodell.

But it sounds like something somebody who’s never played the game would say, something that they would suggest, because he doesn’t understand. He’s just a face. He’s just a suit. He’s never stepped foot on the field and understood how you can get a personal foul.

Sherman’s solution to weed out the suits while bettering the overall product: let someone whose actually caught a football for a living decide what constitutes a catch.

Like I said before, you don’t have a bunch of guys … let Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin talk about it for about 20, 30 minutes. Maybe Cris Carter. Randy Moss, let those guys have a roundtable discussion about what a catch should be and come up with a rule.

That makes all the sense in the world, which is exactly why it won’t resonate with Roger Goodell.
