Last week, the first trailer for the Ghostbusters remake came out. Some people liked it. Some people did not like it. Some people liked it because it remade a classic movie. Some people did not like it because it remade a classic movie. Some people liked it because it had an all-female lead cast. Some people did not like it because it had an all-female lead cast. There was a lot of backlash by some people on social media who made blanket assumptions that anyone who did not embrace the new trailer was sexist. They called out anyone who didn’t instantly give the Ghostbusters trailer a glowing endorsement by calling them derogatory names such as “baby-men,” “man-babies” and any possible combination of the words that one could think of for males and crying infants. Now there are definitely some men who made their opinion based on the gender of the cast, but there were a majority of people who just didn’t like the new trailer because they didn’t find the new trailer promising or entertaining. Like filmmaker Kevin Smith.

The great writer and director of Clerks and Jay & Silent Bob recently commented on the new trailer on his Hollywood Babble-On podcast with Ralph Garman. The duo didn’t have much fanfare over the trailer.

Whoever cut this trailer needs to be sat down, and I’m not going to call for their job to be taken away from them but they need to be scolded. It could’ve been all men with the same jokes, and it still would have sucked. The trailer’s not strong, and that doesn’t mean the movie’s gonna blow, like again the fucking pedigree of this movie is undeniable. There’s no way all these people involved don’t make a fucking funny, at least watchable fun movie.

Smith acknowledges that the trailer may not be indicative of the final product, and are often not edited by the filmmakers themselves. He also goes out of his way to say that the director, Paul Feig, as well as the all-female lead cast of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are all extremely talented and “hysterical.” However, the “jokes” in the trailer do not seem to be that of the next great comedy with uninspired and stale lines of “Well that’s gonna leave a mark” as well as reusing the ole The Exorcist head-spinning gag.

Smith has shown to be considerate to the feelings of females, as he did last month when he baked his daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, a cake that said “Sorry men Suck,” after she was nearly abducted by two creeps in a car pretending to be her Uber ride.

First impressions of the upcoming movie does seem like a very lazy rendition of the original. Conversely, here are some reasons why the new Ghostbusters movie is going to be awesome.
