Two Female Teachers Arrested For Having Threesome With Student Have Charges Brought Against Them One Year Later

Last year we brought you the story of how Shelley Dufresne, 32, and Rachel Respess, 24, were arrested for reportedly having a threesome with a 16-year-old student. While the student said that the alleged encounter was “consensual,” the fact that both Respess and Dufresne were (and still are, of course) well above the acceptable age to have supposed intercourse with a minor meant that the two were placed under arrest.

However, it was not until Monday, December 14th (more than one year later) that the two were charged with any crimes. Surprisingly, Respess emerged fairly unscathed. Despite having “almost” confessed, she was only charged with failing to report the commission of a felony. Via NoLa.com:

When Kenner police arrested Respess on Oct. 1, 2014, Chief Michael Glaser said investigators had “no doubt” both women had sex with the student at Respess’ apartment, and that Respess had “almost” confessed to the deed. Glaser said Respess corroborated what the student told investigators about the sexual encounter. Both Dufresne and Respess were booked with carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Respess’ defense attorney, Jeffrey Smith, hasmaintained his client’s innocence, and he cryptically stated earlier this year that she never had “consensual sex” with the student. Now the only formal charge against Respess is failing to report the commission of a felony.

Dufresne was not nearly as fortunate and came out charged with two sexual encounters with the unnamed student, and has even already plead guilty to having sex with the same student in a separate case.

When originally booked, both teachers “were booked not only with carnal knowledge but with indecent behavior with a juvenile and contributing to his delinquency.” As could be expected, people are calling the charges a “slap on the wrist” and are letting their thoughts be known:
