Ball coerced his longtime handyman Felipe to a local car dealer in California, where he surprised him and his family with a 2017 Toyota Tundra. Ball has known Felipe for upwards of 15 years, ESPN reports, and the ride couldn’t have come at a better time, as Felipe was having trouble getting to work due to transmission problems in his old vehicle.
“It’s just something I did for him,” Ball told ESPN.com. “He’s been working a long time trying to make ends meet. That car ain’t gonna get him from place to place. Now he has a car that can get him from Point A to Point B.”
On top of the new ride, and more importantly, Ball gave his longtime buddy a new job as a property manager for Big Baller Brand. Maybe he’s making up for getting his sons’ high school coach fired? Those who giveth jobs, taketh away. Corinthians 3:18.
Ball stressed that he didn’t buy Felipe the truck for good press or to change the narrative surrounding him. He said he just wanted to help out “family.”
Even considering all the irritating and self-indulgent things LaVar has said and done over the past year, it’s tough to think of this as anything other than a solid move, (and a publicity stunt for his new Facebook show).
Ball said he didn’t buy the truck for attention or to convince his haters he has a generous side. He said he was just helping out “family.”
God damnit, and I was starting to warm up to LaVar Ball: The Villain.
