For $400,000 a year you would think that someone, anyone would be willing to take a job regardless of what it is. Sure, your qualifications might make it impossible, which is the case here, but there ARE people who ARE qualified and they still won’t take the job after TWO YEARS of trying to fill it. TWO YEARS? The obvious question here is: WHY?

A doctor in New Zealand, Dr. Alan Kenny, is asking himself that very question because despite offering the position of General Practioner no one is applying. It’s not like there’s a salary issue. Kenny says that the $400,000 after expenses is more than double a GP’s average income. DOUBLE!

Whoever takes the job also gets HALF OF THE PRACTICE, three months holiday and no weekend or night shifts. I might just go back to medical school if this is the kind of gigs that people are TURNING DOWN these days.

He thinks that perhaps the workload of handling the 6,000 or so patients that his clinic has is just too off-putting for prospective docs.

Kenny tells the New Zealand Herald

“I can offer them a really, really amazing income; it’s incredible. My practice has exploded in the last year and the more patients you list, the more money you get. But it just gets too much at the end of the day.

“Just because I earn lots of money doesn’t mean I want to work my butt off.”

“I love my work and I would like to stay but I hit my head against a brick wall trying to attract doctors. If it’s hard enough to get doctors to work alongside me, it’s going to be a devil of a job to get doctors to replace me.”

And once again I am left befuddled by the world and the people who inhabit it. Just another day on the Internet I suppose.
