It didn’t take long for Peter Dinklage to become a household name thanks to his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones. The actor has won two Emmys thanks to his standout performance on the show, has had the chance to host Saturday Night Live, and managed to set the internet aflame by simply riding a scooter.
Now, a new series of pictures have popped up that will undoubtedly make people online freak out all over again. In an interview with NME, Dinklage reflected on his younger days and revealed he once played in a punk band when he was in college in New York City. Getty has a small collection of photos from various shows from the early 90s, and they are absolutely glorious.

Dinklage sports a prosthetic scar on Game of Thrones, but it turns out he has an actual scar thanks to an injury he suffered during a particularly intense set:
“I have a pretty big scar that runs from my neck to my eyebrow. I was in a band called Whizzy for many years in New York. … We played a show at CBGB, and I was jumping around onstage and got accidentally kneed in the temple. I was like Sid Vicious, just bleeding all over the stage. Blood was going everywhere. I just grabbed a dirty bar napkin and dabbed my head and went on with the show.”

Based on the photos, Dinklage wasn’t just a singer but played the trumpet as well. There are no audio or video recordings of the band’s sets, but people familiar with the music have drawn comparisons between them and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Let’s hope the HBO hackers figure out a way to dig up the archives.
