Jack Daniel’s was founded a way, way back in 1875. There have been very few changes in the original recipe in those 142 years, but there is a new version of the American whiskey coming to your local liquor purveyor. Jack Daniel’s Rye is hitting stores with a mash bill that is 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley. The rye whiskey has a potent 90 proof. This new classic whiskey is charcoal-filtered and matured in American oak barrels and features flavors of ripe fruit, light toasted oak notes, rich with spice that does not overpower.

“Our whiskey-making process is so special, and it just makes sense for us to create our version of one of America’s first whiskeys,” said Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Jeff Arnett in a prepared statement provided to us upon request. “This is rye whiskey made Jack’s way. We think our grain bill provides the ideal taste and character – one that’s bold and balanced and not dominated by one flavor.”

This new rye whiskey is said to be released in October for approximately $27 per 750 ml bottle. Here is the difference between bourbon, rye, and Tennessee whiskey. Jack Danie’s has offered a single barrel version that is at a much higher price point. So are you trying this promising new rye whiskey?
